About

I’m Will Kennedy. Producer, mixer, and engineer. I live in Los Angeles, but I am going to Reseda. We are all in some way or another going to Reseda…some day…to die…

…and if you can finish the rest of that lyric quote from a genre-bending mid-90′s alternative group – well – I applaud your great taste in music!

Here’s my deal: I’ve been working in the recording business for over a decade. I have a bachelor’s degree in music from Berklee College Of Music. My major instrument was trombone. It took me a matter of mere weeks before I’d built a pickup, hooked it up to an amp, and joined a rock band. Along the way I picked up guitar, drums, and learned how to sing.

My experience in the world of recording has been similarly broad. From 24-track analog, to ADAT, to the DAW flavor of the month. SSL’s, old Neves, new Neves, APIs, Quad 8′s, and even consoles with names like “Sphere,” and, “Einstein.” During one really amazing 6-month stretch, I took a trip through recorded media history while digitally archiving the Ray Charles catalog. Seriously. No kidding.

I’ve been fortunate to work for – and in – some of the world’s greatest recording studios. I cut my teeth at Ocean Way in Nashville, and Right Track Recording (now MSR) in New York. I was very lucky to catch the end of the “analog era” of recording, working around some truly astounding people. The digital age has brought some amazing advances to the studio. I’ve had a chance to not only learn, but shape how the technology is being used. I also believe that understanding the advantages of both approaches gives me a unique perspective on recording music.

During my time in Los Angeles I’ve had the privilege of working on platinum records…for major labels…in big studios. However, I grew up looking for new bands and sounds. My heart has always been in the world of independent music. I pride myself on being able to bring that “big record” sound to every client. But if rough-and-ready is what you’re looking for, I am not afraid to get a little dirt in the sauce.

I now work mostly out of Studio P – the space I operate with my friend and partner Rafael Serrano. It’s full of amazing modified and custom gear I’ve carefully pieced together over the years. Though when the budgets allow (and/or projects necessitate), I’m every bit as comfortable working at one of the other amazing studios Los Angeles has to offer. Or if coming to Los Angeles doesn’t appeal to you, I’m happy to work wherever you are.

So if you’re looking for someone to produce or mix your next recording, check out the credits page, listen to the samples, and get in touch!
